Wage Garnishment Limits & Exempt Benefits
Current understanding
Michigan garnishment rules are set in section 4031 of the Revised Judicature Act (1961 PA 236, MCL 600.4031). Pending legislation (HB6205) would add sections 4001a, 4032, and 4033 to exempt certain public benefits and tax credits from garnishment and set a state-level cap on the portion of wages subject to garnishment. Status: introduced.
