Title Insurance Single-Risk Limit
Current understanding
HB6097 (introduced) proposes to eliminate the single-risk limit for title insurance by amending section 640 of Michigan’s Insurance Code (1956 PA 218, MCL 500.640). The single-risk limit historically capped the amount of risk a title insurer could underwrite on a single transaction relative to its capital; removing it would allow title insurers to write larger individual policies without statutory ceiling.
