Automatic Renewal Disclosure in Consumer Contracts (Consumer Protection Act)

Current understanding

Michigan SB 0535 would amend the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (1976 PA 331, MCL 445.901–445.922) by adding a new section 3j to require businesses to disclose automatic renewal provisions in consumer contracts. The bill is tie-barred to SB 0536’25 and has passed one chamber. Similar automatic-renewal disclosure laws exist in many other states; the Michigan version would give consumers clearer notice before contracts renew automatically.
