Patient Take-Home of Unused Eye Drops After Procedures

Current understanding

Michigan HB4072 would amend the Public Health Code (1978 PA 368) by adding secs. 17773, 20817, and 21539 to permit patients to take home unused portions of eye drops or eye ointments dispensed in connection with certain procedures, for continued patient care. The bill addresses a narrow gap in pharmaceutical dispensing rules that currently limits reuse or transfer of institutionally-dispensed ophthalmic drugs. Status: passed one chamber.
