Good Samaritan Liability Immunity
Current understanding
Michigan’s Good Samaritan Act (1963 PA 17, MCL 691.1501–691.1507) shields individuals who render emergency aid in good faith from civil liability for ordinary negligence. SB 0590 (103rd Legislature) would add a new Sec. 8 extending this immunity specifically to individuals who apply bleeding control techniques while rendering emergency services; the bill has passed a chamber and is tie-barred with SB 0591.
