Gender Reassignment Procedures for Minors — Licensing Sanctions

Current understanding

Proposed Michigan legislation would amend the Public Health Code (secs. 16221 & 16226 of 1978 PA 368) to make performing gender reassignment procedures or treatment on minors a basis for professional licensing sanctions against healthcare providers. HB 4466 (tie-barred to HB 4467’25) is the vehicle; as of this finding it has passed a chamber. If enacted, licensed clinicians who provide such care to minors would face disciplinary action; minors and their families would lose access to those services from Michigan-licensed providers.
