Prohibited Substances in Food and Drink Products

Current understanding

Michigan’s Food Law (2000 PA 92) sets standards for food and drink products sold in the state. HB 5069 would amend the Food Law by adding section 7132 to prohibit the use of certain substances in food and drink products; the bill has passed a chamber. Consumers gain protection from designated additives, while manufacturers, distributors, and retailers face new compositional restrictions on covered products.
