Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Referral Requirement

Current understanding

Michigan HB 5773 (103rd Legislature) would add sec. 16282a to 1978 PA 368 to require licensed health professionals to refer patients to a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) diagnostic center under specified circumstances. The bill has been introduced; if enacted, it would impose a new clinical referral duty on health professionals under the Public Health Code and steer at-risk patients to specialized FASD diagnostic services.
