Elevated Blood Lead Referral to Early On Program

Current understanding

Section 5474 of the Public Health Code (1978 PA 368) governs the state’s response to childhood lead exposure. HB5975 would amend sec. 5474 to require that children identified with elevated blood lead levels be referred to the Early On early intervention program, which is administered by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP). Beneficiaries would be lead-exposed children gaining a formal pathway into developmental services; the bill is introduced.
