Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (Septic) Regulation
Current understanding
Michigan is the only state without a statewide sanitary code governing onsite wastewater treatment systems (septic systems), leaving regulation to a patchwork of local health departments. SB0771 (103rd Legislature) would create a new Part 128 in the Public Health Code (1978 PA 368) to regulate septic systems and require periodic assessments and evaluations, amending secs. 12751, 12752, 12757 & 12771. Status: introduced.
