Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Regulation (SB0771)

Current understanding

SB0771 (103rd Michigan Legislature) would establish a statewide regulatory framework for onsite wastewater treatment systems (septic systems) by amending secs. 12751, 12752, 12757 and 12771 of the Public Health Code (1978 PA 368) and adding a new Part 128. The bill provides for assessments and evaluations of these systems, which historically have been governed under a patchwork of local health department rules in Michigan — the only state without a uniform statewide septic code. The bill has been introduced.
