Homeschool Driver Training

Current understanding

Michigan’s driver training system is governed by 2006 PA 384 (MCL 256.621–256.705), which regulates commercial and school-based driver education programs. HB 5977 (introduced) would add a new section 40 to that act providing for homeschool driver training, tie-barred with HB 5978. If enacted, this would create a formal pathway for homeschooling families to conduct driver training outside the traditional commercial driver-ed provider framework.
