USAID sub · CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES - UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS ← WORLD VISION INC. — $3.0M

Key claim: USAID, via prime recipient World Vision Inc., is passing through $3.0M to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to implement integrated nutrition, maternal and child health, immunization, and disease surveillance activities in the Tambacounda and Diourbel regions of Senegal.

Abstract

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES - UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS received $3.0M as a sub-award (pass-through) from prime recipient WORLD VISION INC. (prime award AIDOAAA1700026), under Agency for International Development funding. CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES (CRS) DIRECTLY IMPLEMENT PROGRAM ACTIVITIES IN SENEGAL IN THE TWO REGIONS; TAMBACOUNDA AND DIOURBEL, WITH SOME OF THE GREATEST HEALTH AND NUTRITION NEEDS IN THE COUNTRY. TOGETHER, THESE CRS IMPLEMENTATION ZONES HAVE AN ESTIMATED POPULATION OF 1,901,512 PEOPLE. THE SELECTION OF THESE REGIONS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT GIVEN THAT TAMBACOUNDA AND DIOURBEL REPORT THE HIGHEST MALNUTRITION PREVALENCE RATES NATIONWIDE, UNDERSCORING THE NEED FOR INTEGRATED NUTRITION, MCH, AND IMMUNIZATION INTERVENTIONS. THE PROJECT WILL COORDINATE ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION, POLIO VACCINATION CAMPAIGNS, NUTRITION SERVICES, AND MCH INTERVENTIONS TO ENSURE EFFICIENT AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO LIFESAVING SERVICES. CGPP WILL LEVERAGE AND EXPAND COMMUNITY-BASED STRUCTURES—INCLUDING COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, RELIGIOUS LEADERS, TEACHERS, AND LOCAL HEALTH WORKERS—TO PROMOTE VACCINE ACCEPTANCE, IDENTIFY AND REFER ZERO-DOSE CHILDREN, SUPPORT BREASTFEEDING AND NUTRITION COUNSELING, ENCOURAGE TIMELY CARE-SEEKING, AND STRENGTHEN DISEASE SURVEILLANCE. THROUGH HOUSEHOLD VISITS, CARE GROUPS, SCHOOL-BASED ACTIVITIES, COMMUNITY DIALOGUES, OUTREACH SESSIONS, AND RELIGIOUS GATHERINGS, THE PROJECT WILL DELIVER INTEGRATED HEALTH EDUCATION AND BEHAVIOR CHANGE INTERVENTIONS THAT IMPROVE CHILD AND FAMILY HEALTH.
