Requirements for Insurance
Key claim: The NCUA is amending federal share-insurance rules for all federally insured credit unions to drop unnecessary disclosures that nonmember accounts are not covered by the Share Insurance Fund.
Abstract
(Rule · National Credit Union Administration) The NCUA Board (Board) is amending its regulations that establish the requirements for obtaining and maintaining federal share insurance with the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (Share Insurance Fund). The provisions of this part apply to all federally insured credit unions (FICUs). The rule will reduce regulatory burden by eliminating unnecessary and redundant requirements related to disclosing when nonmember accounts are not covered by federal share insurance.
Why this matters
For federally insured credit unions, this final rule trims a long-standing disclosure obligation tied to nonmember shares, reducing signage and account-opening paperwork without changing the underlying coverage rules of the Share Insurance Fund. Consumers see no change in what is insured, but it signals NCUA’s ongoing burden-reduction posture on Part 740 advertising and disclosure requirements.
