Bill introduced in Congress — not yet passed by either chamber, and not law.

Betting on Our Future Act

Key claim: The Betting on Our Future Act would prohibit advertising of sportsbooks on electronic communications media subject to FCC jurisdiction.

Abstract

(HR967 · 118th Congress) Betting on Our Future Act This bill prohibits certain advertising of sports betting. Specifically, it makes it unlawful to advertise sportsbooks (persons engaged in the business of taking sports bets or wagers and paying out winnings) using a medium of electronic communication that is subject to the jurisdiction of the Federal Communications Commission. Latest action (2023-02-17): Referred to the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.

Why this matters

A statutory ban on sportsbook advertising over FCC-regulated media would directly reshape broadcast, cable, and radio ad inventories that have grown dependent on gambling revenue since PASPA’s repeal. For consumers, it would reduce exposure to sports betting promotions on licensed communications channels, while carriers and broadcasters would face new compliance obligations and lost ad revenue.
