Why this matters
Oral anticancer drugs are increasingly the standard of care for many cancers, but because they are billed under pharmacy benefits rather than the medical benefit that covers IV infusions, patients often pay dramatically more out-of-pocket for pill-form therapies than for chemically equivalent infusions. A federal parity requirement would change what cancer patients pay at the pharmacy counter and could shift insurer benefit design for oncology drugs.
