Supporting Apprenticeship Colleges Act of 2025

Key claim: The Supporting Apprenticeship Colleges Act of 2025 would direct the Department of Education to award grants to higher-education institutions that sponsor construction and manufacturing registered apprenticeship programs for high-school and employer outreach and for student advising and support services.

Abstract

(S2028 · 119th Congress) Supporting Apprenticeship Colleges Act of 2025 This bill directs the Department of Education to award grants to institutions of higher education that sponsor construction and manufacturing-oriented registered apprenticeship programs for (1) expanding or supporting outreach to high schools, local businesses, local workforce development boards, and apprenticeship intermediaries; and (2) providing advising and support services to students who are enrolled in these apprenticeship programs. Latest action (2025-06-11): Read twice and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.

Why this matters

For institutions, the bill would open a dedicated ED grant stream to underwrite the outreach, advising, and support-services infrastructure needed to sustain registered apprenticeship programs in construction and manufacturing. For students, it could expand access to structured earn-and-learn pathways with wrap-around advising at sponsoring colleges. Status is early (introduced/referred), so no immediate change to program availability.
