Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2025

Key claim: The Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2025 would expand Medicare coverage of chiropractic services from only manual spinal subluxation correction to all services furnished by chiropractors.

Abstract

(HR539 · 119th Congress) Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2025 This bill expands Medicare coverage of chiropractic services to include all services provided by chiropractors, rather than only subluxation corrections through manual manipulation of the spine. Latest action (2025-01-16): Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Ways and Means, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.

Why this matters

Medicare’s chiropractic benefit has been narrowly limited to manual spinal subluxation correction since chiropractors were added as providers in 1972, leaving evaluation, imaging, and other in-scope services uncovered and out-of-pocket for beneficiaries. If enacted, this bill would broaden what Medicare pays chiropractors to deliver, changing beneficiary cost-sharing exposure and potentially shifting utilization patterns for musculoskeletal care.
