Airworthiness Directives; The Boeing Company Airplanes

Key claim: The FAA proposes a new airworthiness directive requiring repetitive high frequency eddy current inspections of fuselage skin lap splices on Boeing 747-8 airplanes to address cracking at the upper fastener row.

Abstract

(Proposed Rule · Transportation Department, Federal Aviation Administration) The FAA proposes to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Boeing Company Model 747-8 series airplanes. This proposed AD was prompted by a report of cracks in the fuselage skin lap splice at the upper fastener row between certain stations at certain stringers. This proposed AD would require performing repetitive external surface high frequency eddy current (HFEC) inspections of the upper fastener row of the fuselage skin lap splice for any crack and applicable on-condition actions. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
