Public Company Advisory Committee Act of 2026
Key claim: HR6967 would create a Public Company Advisory Committee within the SEC to advise on regulatory priorities, corporate governance, proxy processes, and public reporting for public companies.
Abstract
(HR6967 · 119th Congress) Public Company Advisory Committee Act of 2026 This bill establishes the Public Company Advisory Committee within the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The committee must advise the SEC on regulatory priorities, public reporting and corporate governance of public companies, shareholder meetings and the proxy process, and other topics. The committee must be comprised of individuals who are officers, directors, or senior officials of public companies; have senior managerial responsibility in associations that represent the interests of public companies; or provide professional advice and services to public companies. Latest action (2026-03-19): Placed on the Union Calendar, Calendar No. 479.
Why this matters
For public company issuers and investors, a new standing advisory committee could formalize an industry-facing input channel into SEC rulemaking on governance, proxy voting, and disclosure — potentially shifting the Commission’s regulatory agenda over time. The proposal is incremental institutional plumbing rather than substantive rule change, but its scope (proxy processes and public reporting) overlaps with several active SEC reform and disclosure debates.
