Heavy Truck Federal Excise Tax Repeal (HR2424)

Current understanding

The Modern, Clean, and Safe Trucks Act of 2025 (HR2424) proposes to repeal the 12% federal excise tax (FET) imposed on the first retail sale of heavy trucks, trailers, and tractors. The tax currently flows into the Highway Trust Fund, so repeal would eliminate a dedicated revenue stream used for surface transportation funding. Status: introduced.
