CDL Holder Self-Reporting of Motor Vehicle Violations — Removal
Current understanding
FMCSA has removed the longstanding requirement that Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders self-report motor vehicle violations to their State of Domicile. The rule is made redundant by the 2024 electronic exchange system between State Driver Licensing Agencies (SDLAs), which automatically transmits conviction data between states. Practical effect: reduced paperwork for CDL drivers without loss of enforcement visibility, since violation data continues to flow through the interstate SDLA network.
