Secure E-Waste Export and Recycling Act (HR2998)

Current understanding

HR2998 (119th Congress) would prohibit the export or reexport of electronic waste — including computers, televisions, and other consumer electronics — with limited exemptions, on the rationale that discarded U.S. electronics feed overseas counterfeit-component supply chains. Effects on exporters (particularly recyclers and refurbishers), importers of recovered materials, and downstream consumer prices for electronics repair parts have not been characterized from bill text. Similar bills have been introduced in prior Congresses without enactment.
