Economic Espionage Prevention Act
Current understanding
The Economic Espionage Prevention Act authorizes the President to impose visa- and property-blocking sanctions on foreign adversary entities that conduct economic/industrial espionage against the United States, materially support adversary national-security entities, or violate U.S. export controls. It also narrows the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) ‘informational materials’ and ‘personal communications’ exemptions with respect to bulk sensitive personal data and source code embedded in connected software applications, expanding the scope of transactions the executive branch can restrict.
