Opioid Overdose Data Collection Enhancement Act
Current understanding
S5130 would amend the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Grant Program to explicitly permit states, local governments, tribes, and law enforcement coalitions to use grant funds to develop and implement tools that track fatal and nonfatal overdoses and the administration of opioid reversal medications. The bill is at the introduced stage and does not create new funding, but broadens allowable uses of an existing grant stream to strengthen local overdose surveillance.
