Medicare Inpatient Psychiatric Coverage

Current understanding

Medicare currently imposes a 190-day lifetime limit on inpatient care in freestanding psychiatric hospitals, a coverage cap that has been in place since Medicare’s inception and does not apply to general hospital psychiatric units.
