Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP)

Current understanding

The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) is a covered preventive service for eligible Medicare beneficiaries at risk of type 2 diabetes, delivered by CDC-recognized suppliers. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, CMS temporarily authorized virtual/distance-learning delivery of MDPP services; that authorization has been extended by legislation and currently sunsets December 31, 2027 absent further action.
