FHFA Repeal of Federal Home Loan Bank New Business Activities Regulation
Current understanding
The Federal Housing Finance Agency has issued a proposed rule to repeal its New Business Activities (NBA) regulation, which currently requires Federal Home Loan Banks to obtain FHFA approval before engaging in activities outside their existing authorities. If finalized, FHLBanks would no longer be subject to the NBA notice-and-approval framework, though they would remain bound by their statutory charter authorities and other supervisory oversight. Status: proposed rule.
