Kern Canyon and Relictual Slender Salamander ESA Listing & Critical Habitat
Current understanding
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed ESA listings for two California salamander species: threatened status with a Section 4(d) rule for the Kern Canyon slender salamander (Batrachoseps simatus) and endangered status for the relictual slender salamander (Batrachoseps relictus), together with critical habitat designations. The 4(d) rule would tailor take prohibitions and exceptions for the threatened species. Status: proposed rule with public comment period reopened; no final listing decision yet.
