Current understanding
Introduced legislation making incremental modifications to VA educational assistance programs. Key changes for veteran students and borrowers: GI Bill overpayments/repayments would be required within 60 days of benefit exhaustion; independent study program eligibility would be expanded to include for-profit institutions (broadening approved provider options); and a veteran pension cap would be extended through 2033. For institutions, for-profit schools would gain access to independent study GI Bill enrollments, while beneficiaries face a defined post-exhaustion repayment window.
