REDI Act (HR2028)
Current understanding
The Resident Education Deferred Interest (REDI) Act (HR2028) would allow borrowers enrolled in medical or dental internship or residency programs to defer federal student loan payments — and pause interest accrual — until completion of their training. It extends existing deferment frameworks to a group that currently faces significant interest accumulation during residency. Status: introduced.
