Pay Our Troops Act of 2026 (HR5401)
Current understanding
HR5401 would provide continuing appropriations to pay members of the Armed Forces, Department of Defense civilian employees, and DoD contractors during any lapse in FY2026 appropriations. Funding would continue at rates and under conditions of the prior fiscal year until regular appropriations are enacted or January 1, 2027, whichever is earlier. The bill follows a recurring pattern of shutdown-contingency measures introduced when appropriations deadlines approach; it is introduced and not enacted.
