Office of Survivors Assistance Organizational Placement
Current understanding
The Office of Survivors Assistance (OSA) at the Department of Veterans Affairs serves as a principal advisor to the Secretary on policies and programs affecting survivors and dependents of deceased veterans and service members. Legislation (Prioritizing Veterans’ Survivors Act) would move OSA out of the Pension and Fiduciary Service within the Veterans Benefits Administration and place it directly within the Office of the Secretary, elevating its reporting line. The change is administrative and does not create or alter any survivor benefits, eligibility rules, or fiscal outlays.
