RRLEF Act (Law Enforcement Firearms Dealer Accountability)
Current understanding
Introduced legislation that would condition Byrne JAG grant eligibility on state and local governments not buying firearms from — or selling firearms to — federally licensed dealers with high short-time-to-crime trace rates. It also directs ATF to publish annual lists identifying such dealers and would lift existing statutory restrictions (Tiahrt-style limits) on public disclosure of firearms tracing data. Practical effect, if enacted, would create a federal funding lever tying police procurement and disposal decisions to dealer-level crime-gun trace performance and would expand public access to trace data.
