NFA Interstate Transport & Temporary Export Notice Reform

Current understanding

ATF has proposed a rule to replace the current pre-approval waiting requirement for interstate transport of National Firearms Act (NFA) registered firearms with a notice-only system covering both short-term and long-term transport. The change is procedural rather than substantive: NFA registrants would still be required to notify ATF of interstate movement, but would no longer need to wait for affirmative approval before transporting registered items. The rule is at the proposed stage and has not been finalized.
