Love Lives On Act (Survivor Benefit Remarriage Bars)

Current understanding

The Love Lives On Act of 2025 is proposed legislation that would remove remarriage as a disqualifier for surviving spouses of deceased service members and veterans to continue receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuities, and TRICARE dependent health coverage. Under current law, remarriage (often before a specified age threshold) terminates or suspends some of these benefits, which supporters argue penalizes surviving spouses for repartnering. The bill is at the introduction stage and has not advanced.
