Rural Wellness Act
Current understanding
The Rural Wellness Act directs USDA to prioritize behavioral health, mental health, and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services within existing rural development loan and grant programs (including Community Facilities), and reauthorizes SUD treatment set-asides through FY2029. It does not create a new clinical program but redirects and extends existing rural development funding streams toward behavioral health infrastructure and services. Effect on farmers and rural residents: expanded access to treatment facilities in underserved areas; no direct consumer food price impact.
