NIFA Food and Agriculture Science Education Programs
Current understanding
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) funds a suite of education and workforce programs — including the Higher Education Challenge Grants, Agriculture in the Classroom, Secondary Education Challenge Grants, and National Awards — that support K-12 through graduate food and agriculture science instruction. The Future FARMER Act (HR1952) would reauthorize these programs and associated fellowships through FY2029 without changing eligibility or mechanisms. Status: introduced; direct effects fall on students, educators, and land-grant institutions rather than on farmers or consumer food prices in the near term.
