Crop Insurance Temperature-Based Index Policy
Current understanding
The TEMP Act would direct the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to research and develop a nationally-available temperature-based index insurance policy to protect specific crops from frost and cold weather losses. Index-based policies pay out based on measured weather triggers rather than assessed field losses, which can speed claims but may create basis risk for farmers whose losses diverge from the index. Status: introduced.
